Sir Honey Davenport

It is always exciting to have Sir Honey Davenport host an event. She will once again be hosting this year’s Get Out! Magazine Awards on Monday, June 1, and she claims she has a few tricks up her sleeve this time around!

Why do you like to host the Get Out! Awards?
It’s such a celebration of who we are as community. It acknowledges the best from every corner of NYC. And I am honored to have hosted it the last three years.

Is there anything we can expect from you that will be a little bit different this year?
Mama’s got some tricks up her sleeve, but I am excited to announce that I am performing me and Orion Simprini’s new single “Trouble”  for the first time ever at the awards this year.

What is your favorite thing about the awards?
The exposure it gives to queens and other out performers all over the city. The show always features all kinds of performers from all over the city.

What have you been doing since we last spoke.?

Learning, growing and working hard on new music. I have music coming out with my band Electrohoney and two other songs I am working on with Orion Simprini, DJ Casa De Galindo and T-boy.

What are your plans for the summer and for Pride?
The Miss’d America team and my music are keeping me busy all month. I will be at Brooklyn Pride with my band and riding the Miss’d America float in Asbury, Philly and New York Prides, just to name a few.

If you could exchange heels with any other queen, who would you choose and why?
Billy Porter, or Dame Edna, or Charles Busch. Someone who has gotten to do drag in a leading role on Broadway. I really want my art to eventually venture outside of just nightlife.

Will we see you on Fire Island soon?
As Miss Cherry Lane and Miss Cherry Grove, I am hoping to snatch as many gigs as possible on the island, and I will definitely be performing at the Cherry’s opening party.

What is your favorite cocktail?
I am really a simple girl. I just drink tequila with club soda. It’s how I turn up and still keep my girlish figure.
