When asked to write a sex column for Get Out! mag, I really had a hard time thinking about what it would be like, represent and touch on. I am not Carrie Bradshaw, and this isn’t “Sex and the City.”
2012 brought to light a well-kept yet well-known sex phenomenon: a new sexual movement that is on the rise, putting an end to old theories about sex, gender and sexual censorship. They’re attempting to change sexual exploration. I name these men and women “Byrons.” They are forming this new wave of sexual fluidity, the evolved pansexual. They are the new outcasts, and soon society will coin them as being sexual deviants.
They say men think about sex every 39 seconds. Of course, that’s straight men; with gay men, it’s every nine. Nevertheless, we fantasize about whatever kink, fetish, erotics will make us nut. Behind closed doors and in the deep corners of your mind: The total top fantasizes about being a total bottom. The married man beats off to his female employee. One wife plays with the thought of having a three-way with her husband and his brother, and so on.
These practices go beyond what is considered convention; sexual practices, to form a mold of adrenaline, heightening intimacy between the two. So, with sexual boundaries, which themselves vary from time and place, the definition of what is and is not kinky or extreme varies widely as well. Practitioners are sometimes considered to be perverts. To somewhat quote Marie Antoinette: “Let them eat cock.”
Ancient men lived to their 30s; saying “life is short” was an understatement. So, I bet they had sex with whomever, whenever, wherever they wanted to. Now, I know that there’s a fine line between fantasy and reality. But like love and lust, “like” is just another four-letter word. I believe that theses Byrons are non-threatening. I see it as a way to promote good communication, exploring diverse sexualities and forming a new community. As unusual as these sexual interests might be, I’m allured by the how these outsiders are becoming more mainstream. Now, grab some lube, tissues and close your eyes.
