Congratulations to Jon Lopez of Friends Tavern who is Get Out! magazine’s Waiter of the year 

Hello, Jon. What is your favorite part of your job?  How long have you been working at Friends Tavern 

It’s being able to share with people from different cultures. It is the best experience you can have, not only with people of your same nationality, but also with people of other nationalities. You learn a lot, especially about their food and typical dishes. I have been part of the Friends Tavern staff for nine years, and I have met many people who have become part of my family

What are the challenges of your job and how do you deal with them?

The challenges I face at work involve keeping track of all the orders while engaging the customers. It can be quite overwhelming. However, I see this as an opportunity to meet new faces, as well as feeling satisfied knowing i have provided the utmost services to all of these individuals.

How does your presence fit in with the atmosphere at work?

I have always been a hard working individual from a very young age. As a Latino male, It has been instilled to have a hard working mentality, and the nature of this job exemplifies that, considering how much we engage folks, as well as constantly moving around to provide optimal service.

Aside from your job, what are your aspirations ? 

I am a person with many goals and dreams. Every day, I strive to get ahead and achieve everything I set my mind to, apart from being a waiter. Two years ago, I obtained a license as a real estate agent and notary public in the city of New York.

Do you have a favorite drink?

I’m not really a drinker, but when a client invites me to a drink, I like Buchanan’s. 

Friends Tavern is known for its Wednesday night $5 drink night with gogo boys and a packed bar. Give a description of the Friday to Sunday night, as far as what to expect if one would come out to Queens.

Friends Tavern is one of the oldest bars in the area. For 33 years, it has been providing the best service to our community. It’s open seven days a week from 5 PM to 4 AM. On Wednesday nights, they are pretty busy with happy hour prices–all drinks $5–and great atmosphere and the best music by our resident DJ. On Fridays and Saturdays, we have sexy dancers all night, the best cocktails and a very welcoming atmosphere for our entire community. On the second Friday of the month, we have the “Machos” super party with more than four sexy dancers and the best music. On the last Sunday of the month, we have a party that has been going on for more than four years called GOGO XPLOSION, where there are more than six sexy dancers in the bar, free shots for all our clients and an environment where people enjoy the best music. Do not hesitate to spend such a pleasant night with the sexiest staff.

What are the shifts you work, so people who like you can find you?

My work shifts are Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Everyone is cordially invited to spend a very pleasant night, enjoy some delicious drinks and, of course, the best music for all tastes. I wait for you there to serve you with all the pleasure.
