MANY NEW YORK CITY BOYS KNOW BIANCA DEL RIO FROM HER APPEARANCES AT PLACES LIKE THERAPY, THE RITZ AND HOT MESS FRIDAYS AT XL (NOW BPM). NOW THE WORLD KNOWS BIANCA FROM TELEVISION ON “RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE”! CONTRIBUTING WRITER MICHAEL COOK SPOKE WITH OUR FAVORITE GIRL FROM THE BIG EASY ABOUT HER NEW YORK CITY COMPETITION, HER “DRAG RACE” EXPERIENCE AND HER NEW FILM!

What made you want to give “RuPaul’s Drag Race” a shot?
The competition is an amazing platform that showcases drag in a positive way. Who in their right mind would say no to that?!

Your feud with New York City drag darling Shequida is legendary. Any ladies on the “Drag Race” cast that give you as good a run for your money as Shequida has?
Haha! There are a lot of talented queens on this season. I can’t say much, so you’ll have to tune in and see. As far as Shequida is
concerned, she didn’t give me “a run for my money,” technically; she stole my wallet! That hag!

Your style is, as you say, “Joan Crawford meets Bozo the Clown.” Was it hard to branch out from that for the runway?
It wasn’t necessarily hard because I knew that was part of the competition. I enjoyed it more than I thought!

What other queens from New York do you think have what it takes to be on “Drag Race”?
Have you seen these queens? Really? Wait, what I mean to say is “no comment.”

Tell me about “Hurricane Bianca.” When can we expect to see this long-awaited film hit the big screen?
“Hurricane Bianca” is a film project I’ve been working on with a filmmaker friend of mine for the past year or so. It’s a revenge
comedy that’s “Mrs. Doubtfire” for the Jackass generation, and I’m really excited about it. Before I got the phone call from “Drag
Race,” we did a crowdfunding campaign to finance the film, and we will begin preproduction within the year.

Was your “Drag Race” experience everything you could have hoped for? What were your favorite and least favorite parts of the process?
My “Drag Race” experience was exciting and challenging at the same time. My favorite part was getting to chat with RuPaul, Michelle
and Santino. My least favorite part: Shaving. Whether it’s at home or on national TV, shaving sucks.
