COURTNEY ACT TO TAKE NEW YORK BY STORM

She has opened for Lady Gaga (and appeared in her “Applause” teaser video), starred in Rent and sung a duet with Idina Menzel. Now Australian Idol sensation and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 6 contestant COURTNEY ACT returns to New York with an encore engagement of her acclaimed solo show BOYS LIKE ME at The Laurie Beechman Theater (inside West Bank Cafe at 407 West 42nd Street at Ninth Avenue). , accessible from the A, C, E, N, R, V, F, 1, 2 and 3 trains at 42nd Street).

In COURTNEY ACT: BOYS LIKE ME, the multi-talented drag idol sings her favorite songs and divulges the fascinating and funny dirty laundry list that is her sex life. There’s that angry text from a straight boy’s girlfriend, the twins in Montreal, and the US Marine, just to name a few of the titillating encounters she details in story and song. This tuneful, hysterical performance showcases Courtney’s sharp observations of living life on the gender divide, and illustrates what happens when boys like her.

In 2003, Sydney’s Shane Jenek tried out for Australian Idol. Not quite making the cut, he returned the next day in drag as COURTNEY ACT. This time, he made it through to the finals. Courtney’s explosive, energetic performing style, coupled with
her joyous personality, sent audiences wild, and Australia had a new sweetheart.

Hot on the high heels of the TV series came the phenomenally successful national arena tour and a record deal with Sony/BMG. Since then, Courtney Act has opened for Lady Gaga’s Australian club tour, sung a duet with Idina Menzel, been voted one of FHM’s World’s Top 100 Sexiest Women (despite not actually being a woman) and one of the World’s Most Influential People by Out Magazine, graced the catwalk of Australian Fashion Week, played Angel in Rent, served as spokesmodel for Sheer Cover makeup, performed onstage at the Hollywood Bowl and made appearances on TV shows including NBC’s “Are You There Chelsea?” with
Chelsea Handler, “Only In America” with Larry The Cable Guy and “Australia’s Next Top Model.” Currently, she is a contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
