Review: Spiderbites: “The Bite Album”

At first bite, I heard what I thought to be a talented bunch of musicians playing Motley  Crue type heavy metal music, a little retro, a little 80’s. Then  I began to listen to the lyrics. It was essential that I suddenly required myself to focus and pay  close attention to Joe Holweger’s vocals. I had to laugh out load when I realized the release was meant to be tongue and cheek humor, accompanied by good raw music.

The Spiderbites where all spawn from the members of Adam Ant’s band, containing: Joe Holweger on lead vocals and bass, Tom Edwards on back up vocals and guitar, and drummer, back up vocalist and mixologist Andy Woodard. Having toured the US in 2013, the group responsible for Adam’s sound checks, began to enjoy playing that 80’s retro music and eventually formed the Spiderbites.

“The Bite Album”, is a collection of 11  heavy metal/rock n’ roll tracks, one more amusing than the next, filled with humorous, sexual innuendos, that you just have to laugh at. “Fat Girl” and “Magic Fly’, are also accompanied by a video. There is a bunch of good stuff on the album, by a bunch of really good musicians.

According to Joe, the band is currently putting the vocals on a second release, “so we’re pretty close to having the second one now, which is a bit less tongue and cheek. This one will be more catchy I think, and a bit more contemporary  sounding. We went with the 80s retro sound with the first one. The people will be in to the next one for other reasons than a retro thing”,Adam  Ant and his band just came off of one of the best and most high spirited tours of the century, the  “Kings Of The Wild Frontier” tour. As Joe so eloquently put it, “We have a fan club in a way. The problem we have is that some fans are a bit worried because we’re Adam’s band, and he might not like it. To set the record straight on that, he’s a nice guy and he’s not stupid enough to think that he’s threatened by us”.
