Katy Tiz

If you were to choose a superstar in the making, with the energy, personality and talent of a thousand people, as well as her beauty, warmth, humor and sincerity, you would have to come up with Katy Tiz. Her persona and distinctive character easily set her apart from many out there, plus the fact that this girl can really sing.  The entire package comes wrapped with an adorable British accent, and a great love for family and fans.

In case you haven’t noticed, I cannot begin to say enough fabulous things about Katy Tiz.  She will be showcasing her brand-new single “Whistle” on March 7 at the Ritz in New York City. This is an artist you just can’t afford to miss live!

Hello Katy, how are you?
Hello darling, I’m just fabulous

I love your new song, “Whistle.”
You like it? I’m so pleased you like it!

Did you write “Whistle”?
Yes, I wrote it!

How did you think of it?
OK, so, I was in a really rubbish position, and my brother, who I also write with, we have a lot of songs together in the album.  He’s like my saving grace. I had this moment where I was really down, and I was lying in my apartment, and I was listening to sad music with candle light or something, and he calls me and he goes, “Blow out that candle and stop listening to weird music.” I went, “Blow out the candle? No, I’m not.” He said, “Chin up, get it moving.” I was like, “You know what, that’s a great idea for a song.” This song’s about getting through it, whatever it is. I was hoping he hasn’t heard the lyrics properly. I don’t wanna give him that much credit

So Katy, you’re going to be appearing at The Ritz on March 7 in NYC with DJ Bill Coleman and DJ Xavier, correct?
I am! I’m so excited.

What can we expect from your performance there?
Well, I’m gonna sing “Big Bang,” I’m gonna perform “Whistle.” Literally, New York’s my favorite place. Every morning I wake up and say I’m going to reach New York, and then I go, I’m just gonna pack up my stuff. I can’t wait to get there. It’s literally the first time I’m performing “Whistle” in New York, so I’m really excited.

So what’s it like working with “Red One”?
It was amazing. He is so talented. He’s a genuine musician. I remember when I saw him I said, “You play the guitar?” He picked up the guitar and played it upside down, back to front. I was like, OMG! He’s incredible, he really is, whereas I’m like, I can’t play guitar cause I get my nails ruined!

How did this all start for you?
I was a late starter. I was 17 or 18 before I started singing. I was with some friends in England, and we were jamming out. I sang a song – we kind of fell into it. They were kind of like, “You’re not that bad at singing.” I then went and did two shows with them. I really liked this singing thing. My father said, “If you get up every day and work at it, I’ll support you.” So me and my brother did it. We come from a family where, my father was in the military, real estate. It was a business situation, and my brother and I were like, “Let’s do it!” A lot of people were like, “What are you doing? You should be in college.” I was dressing up weird and running around from place to place.

What do you do for fun?
Work. I love what I do very much. I work, work, work, work, work. Then when I get time off I visit my friends and family, and that’s a bloody nightmare, because they’re all a bunch of nut cases.

So you wake up in the morning, have your coffee, and then what motivates you after that to get going?
So my routine is get up, and my favorite thing in the morning is opening up my email, so I’m like, “Come on, what have we got today?”  Then we’re off to the studio, rehearsing or whatever.  It’s amazing. It’s a good job to have. You should try it. You should come and join me!

Can you recall a funny or embarrassing event that has happened to you on stage?
Which one; there are many! I was on stage, and I was hyping the crowd up, and I ran over to my mic. I pulled out the mic as quick as I could and I hit myself in the face. I split my lip, and I was bleeding. I had to run off stage, then come back.

Do you plan a supporting tour for “Whistle”?
Yes, I do. When you see me in New York I will not have done my launch yet – my apologies for that – I just wanna work, and they just keep working me. They give me a schedule, and they just build on it.

OK, so if you were a superhero, what powers would you want?
I’d really like to be able to read people’s minds. I’d like to be able to make people naked. I’d like to say “you’re mean,” so you deserve to be naked!

If you could pick two celebrities for your parents, who would you choose?
That’s a great one. I would pick Brad Pitt as a father, and my mother, I’d probably pick…Katy Perry.

I usually ask males this question, but you have great energy, and you can handle it. You’re in a store window naked, and you’re holding up a sign. What does that sign say?
It would say, “Sorry Mum!”

Do you have a favorite color?
Yes, it’s the color of all my clothes, which is black.

Good choice. So who inspired you musically while growing up?
I think Alicia Keys. I remember listening to her songs and crying over ex-boyfriends. I just think she’s amazing. I really do.

What’s the one thing about you that you’d want me to know?
I’m really 5’ 1½”. Everyone thinks I’m really tall, but I’m not.

What’s your favorite quality about yourself
It’s a blessing and a curse. I’m really loyal. It’s really boring; I wish I wasn’t. The people around me I love. I also love giving people second, third, fourth, eighth chances. But when I’m done, I’m done. I also have really long fingers.

What is your birth sign?
My birth sign is Cancer.

Me too! Now, is there anything else that you’d like to promote for yourself?
Well, the single’s out. It’s terrifying, but I’m so excited about it. The only thing is it’s not out in England, so my mum and dad can’t buy it. We’ve got the video coming out in a couple of weeks.

What’s the name of your album?
I can’t tell you that.

Damn.
I promised everyone I wouldn’t. It’s like I have watching eyes. I don’t wanna get in trouble.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 or 20 years?

Both.
I’d like to see myself doing the same thing I love every day. I really do love it, and I wanna take my crazy family with me along to the road. I wanna tour more than anything. I also wanna buy like 16 Pomeranian dogs and have them all on tour with me and bring them on the stage. I’ve always loved Pomeranians. Oh God, I just think their fabulousness. I’m not allowed to have one though.

Why not?
I can’t even look after myself.

You are a lot of fun. You have an amazing energy. I’m so looking forward to seeing you at the Ritz on March 6 with DJ Bill Coleman and DJ Xavier.
You better be there!
