RAPH SOLO’S NEW ALBUM, “AM I TOO MUCH?,” IS A GIANT POP RECORD THAT BURSTS WITH KILLER HOOKS, SOULFUL MELODIES AND FUNKY GROOVES. IN IT, THE ADONIS CROONER SINGS ABOUT OPEN RELATIONSHIPS, SAFE SEX AND ONE NIGHT STANDS. THESE ARE THE INTIMATE STORIES OF A GAY GUY WHO BY ALL APPEARANCES SHOULD HAVE IT MADE IN THE SHADE. BUT EVEN BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE HAVE BURDENS, AND LISTENERS CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THEM!
Why did you name the album “Am I Too Much”?
It was actually at the advice of two of my ex-boyfriends. I went with the idea because it sounded playful and a little tongue-in-cheek, plus it sums me up in many ways.
Do you struggle with selfesteem issues?
I have times when I feel like shit and times when I feel like a king. That’s life. You take a fall every once in a while, get up, clean up and prepare for more. I think everybody struggles with self-esteem issues.
Why?
It’s hard to love yourself. But it’s true what they say: that until you are able to, you can never truly love someone else.
What is the one thing you love most about yourself?
My soul.
Do you worry that you reveal too much of yourself in songs?
No, because there’s always so much more that I don’t tell.
What’s your favorite track?
“Let’s Make Love.” It will be featured in a documentary short I am currently filming called “Monogamy in the 21st Century.”
What is the most revealing song on the album?
“When Pop Met Porn” because it’s autobiographical. I really put myself out there when I decided to record that song.
Is there anything you will not reveal in your music?
Never say never, but there are a few things I can think of that are not likely to be in any songs. But time will tell, I suppose.
