Astoria’s Oldest LGBTQ Bar
At this quaint neighborhood bar, everybody knows your name, and if you’re a fresh face, they will in under two minutes. Tucked away just off the Astoria Blvd subway station, the Albatross has a homey feel to it. Welcoming to everyone from everywhere, the ‘Tross hosts events every night from Broadway night to drag events and the ultimate karaoke on Fridays with singers that will make you cry (most from joy, and a few from pain). Its unassuming appearance could almost trick you into thinking it’s a typical dive bar with a pool table, darts and juke box, but take one look at the glitter-curtained stage and you know it holds much more.
Since taking over the bar a year ago, the Irish owner, Nathan, breathed new life into this neighborhood watering hole. He set out to bring a bar to the community that is a little something for everyone. A place for when you need a shoulder to cry on? A place where you can sing your face off? A place you go when you just aren’t ready for bed? A place when you want to find a buddy for bed? Albatross delivers. Under Nathan’s management, the bar has also become a place for local groups to gather, and is a sponsor of events for LGBTQ groups such as Broadway Bares and AIDS Walk New York.
So if you’re in the Astoria Area or looking to check out a new bar, come stop by Albatross! It doesn’t hurt that the young male staff are friendly AND sexy, which is always a plus. It’s a no-frills spot where judgment is never passed – unless you’re not drinking and having fun! Don’t miss two-for-one happy hour daily, 5 to 8 p.m.
