Who would have thought Sherry Vine, queen of snark, would make a stellar psychiatrist? Vine stars in “Welcome to New York” as Dr. Kitty Rosenblatt, the straight-talking and frisky psychiatrist, and is so convincing in her role that it may just as well be her real-life alter ego. “Welcome” chronicles the experiences of a series of newbie New Yorkers who, while coming to terms with big-city life, enlist Rosenblatt for advice.
Apart from Vine, the breakout star is Sean Paul Lockhart (the actor formerly known as porn star Brent Corrigan), who proves he’s just as good on screen with his clothes on as he is with them off (although we do get to see a bit of skin). Rounding out the cast are Casper Andreas, Ashleigh Murray, Nick Page/Lauren Ordair, Megan Kane, Matthew Watson, Alex Ringler, Victor Cruz and Shacottha Fields.
“Welcome” was written, directed and produced by Steven Tylor O’Connor, an on-again, off-again New Yorker currently living in Los Angeles, and co-produced by New Yorker Sean David. “This film epitomizes what life is like in the Big Apple,” O’Connor says. “Whether it’s being harassed at a bus stop by some crazy person, being mistaken for a prostitute by your hook up or just plain dating crazies, we all have unique first experiences here. We take a comedic look at these experiences and give you some pretty witty advice about how to deal with it all, thanks to our own Dr. Kitty Rosenblatt (Sherry Vine).”
“Welcome to New York” has its New York City premiere this Saturday, November 17, at 11 a.m. at the Big Apple Film Festival at Tribeca Cinemas, 54 Varick Street. Most of the cast and crew will be present for photos, a Q&A session and mingling.
