Tranny Strip NYC

In a little over a year, promoter John Ed has already changed the fabric of New York City’s nightlife with his imaginative and larger-than-life weekly event: Tranny Strip.  As the former entertainment director of some of New York’s biggest nightclubs, John Ed’s career spans the last 20 years with no intention of slowing down. His clients have included some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Madonna, Beyonce, DJ Tiesto, Jennifer Lopez and Donald Trump,  to name a few.

“Tranny Strip began literally as a dream in my sleep,” says John Ed. “I woke up, and I actually thought I was at my own Tranny Strip party. I told my friends about it, and they encouraged me to go for it. My mother passed away recently, and she is now my angel. I really believe she placed this dream upon me. I had such a strong drive in my heart to do this. I wanted a very different type of tranny party but also bring the same elements I do with Party Productions NYC. You know, with performers, themes, decor and costumes. I wanted this party to be over the top and lots of fun.”

John Ed wasted no time bringing Tranny Strip to fruition, hosting the first event only a month and a half after his life-changing dream. He thanks legendary TS promoter Sandy Michelle, who is also one of Tranny Strip’s weekly hostesses, for her guidance and wealth of knowledge. He then landed big-name companies such as Grooby Productions and Eros as sponsors for his weekly parties. He says: “I am honored that they support my ideas and vision. It means so much to me that Tranny Strip is the only TS party in the world they both sponsor.”

Tranny Strip has grown immensely since its first party in 2011 and has featured some of the biggest-name performers in the TS community and beyond. John Ed and his staff even had a float in this year’s NYC Gay Pride Parade, hoping to celebrate and bring more visibility to the TS community. “My favorite memory is being one of the first to have a complete TS float in the NYC Gay Pride Parade,” he says. “The energy from the crowd as we went down 5th Avenue on our Egyptian-themed float was so overwhelming. We all got goosebumps.”

Tranny Strip’s upcoming anniversary is aptly titled Cirque de Tranny Strip, a perfect example of John Ed’s flair for theatrics. The event will feature the best Cirque performers in the NYC area, famous transsexual icon Amanda Lepore as a guest hostess and special guests TS porn stars Morgan Bailey and Domino Presley.

Tranny Strip is held every Friday and Sunday at Evolve Lounge in the Upper East Side, located at 221 East 58th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue, and runs from 10 p.m. – 4 a.m. Tranny Strip’s anniversary party will take place Friday, October 5.
