Once on this Island…

Matinee Presents NYC’s Biggest Outdoor Pride Party!
Matinée launched over 15 years ago in Ibiza with the idea to elevate parties by crafting elaborate sets and theatrical productions. Since 2010, Jake Resnicow and Patrick Crough have brought the international party franchise to the states with incredible spectacles in Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. But no party compares to what they have in store for New York Pride.
On June 29, they will team up with top NYC event producers Tommy Marinelli, Rob Fernandez and Benny Soto to present the city’s biggest outdoor Pride party. Taking place from 4 p.m. to midnight at Governors Beach Club, DJ Lyd ia Sanz will come direct from Ibiza to headline the main stage along with New York’s DJ Honey Dijon, Berlin’s DJ Tom Peters and the legendary Jonathan Peters spinning a special vocal classics set. Additionally – and new this year! – a specially built second stage will feature some of NYC’s favorite local club DJs.
WE MET UP WITH PATRICK CROUGH TO GET THE SCOOP ON THIS YEAR’S HOTTEST PRIDE EVENT. How will this year’s Pride event top last year’s party? We are always looking for unique ways to oneup ourselves from the year before. It’s difficult to do when you are already starting with a stateof- the-art venue like Governor’s Island. But this year, to give it a more festival feel, we added a second stage to showcase some of New York’s hottest DJs. Names like Cindel, Carlos Jadraque, James Anthony, Justin Dawson, Mikey Fuentes, Obra Primitiva, Ru Bhatt and Whitney Day. It’s our way of making the island even more special with a kind of fairgrounds vibe you’d find at Ultra Music Festival or Electric Daisy Carnival.
What should partygoers know about headlining DJ Lydia Sanz? Lydia drives the Matinee party every week in Ibiza. She’s someone with a sound that pushes the envelope. She’ll speak well to East Coast boys and make them consider something they wouldn’t have necessarily expected. She’s perfect for a large outdoor venue like Governor’s Island.
How will Tom Peters and DJ Honey Dijon be incorporated into the night? They will take turns spinning back-to back. Honey is someone I bring in regularly for my weekly Room Service party. Not only is she one of my favorites, many New Yorkers have a special connection to her. It seems everyone has a story that begins “Remember that night Honey was spinning and…” I trust that she and Room Service London resident Tom Peters will give the crowd some great new stories to tell.
Natasha Bedingfield performed last year’s Pride party. Who will perform this year? You know we are always hush-hush about the surprise performer. Natasha is so talented with such a positive energy; she’ll be tough to top. We’ve been hearing all the speculation about who the possible performer will be. We’re nottelling yet.
At least you spilled the beans on the surprise DJ: Jonathan Peters! I remember seeing Jonathan Peters at Roseland on my birthday a few years back. It was one of the coolest parties I’d ever been to. He attracts a certain New York energy that will compliment the amazing views of downtown Manhattan.
Why is pride the perfect night to experience Matinee? We always make sure to deliver on all the details that make a party successful: the best DJs, sound, lighting, production and venue. But what really makes Pride something special is the crowd. The Pride crowd is anxious to be a part of something epic. They come with a purpose: to celebrate! With the crowd and the party both aiming to scale great heights, its no wonder Matinee Pride is always so memorable.
