The Assassin Slays Us With New Original Music

Kimmi, hello! You’ve been out at Cherry’s on Fire Island doing The Thing since the beginning of summer…How did this year’s 4th of July Invasion go?
Hey, hey! Oh, the invasion was amazing! Had the chance to perform in the Pines for the first time with the Assassins and then took a boat straight to Cherry’s to finish out the show there. Then hopped on a ferry back to Manhattan for another show, so I guess you could say it was.. busy. Bus, club, another club, ferry, water taxi, boardwalk, another club.
What’s the best thing about being out there?
The energy of so many types of people coming into one space. Performing out there is truly a treat. Almost everyone on the island is there to relax and be entertained, so their mood is at a high and their respect for drag is unmatched (especially watching us dance in 100 degree weather).
You’ve also got shows at Balcon (Wednesdays and Saturdays) and Playhouse (Fridays) in Manhattan. Is it hard to keep track of all these damn places you gotta be, lol?
Honestly, a few times a week I ask “What day is it?” True tea, working anything over three nights a week in drag is incredibly exhausting. It’s very important in high season to take care of yourself.
Besides drag and dance, you’re known for putting out banger songs with gorgeous accompanying videos…We can usually look forward to at least one a year! When did this musical side of you come into being, and who are some of your influences?
I have been writing songs since high school or earlier. I remember being in a punk band and writing music with the group and then, when I started to come into my own, writing pop music. I took a production class in high school and then wrote a few songs in college inspired by Kesha’s first album and was also influenced greatly by Adam Lambert for his rock-leaning pop, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and many pop girls.
Do you think there will ever be an entire live-sung show of your originals? That would be amazing!
Absolutely, that is the goal. I’m hoping to have an EP by winter.
You’re premiering a new one, “Control,” at Balcon on July 15. What inspired this particular one, and how excited are you for the kids to hear it!?
I am so excited. I took a longer break than usual from releasing a track and I think it was worth the wait. This track is inspired by two things. As in most of my music, there is an underlying theme of the battle with mental health issues.
I struggle deeply every day with OCD (one of the most debilitating anxiety disorders) and every day is a battle for control of my own brain. Part of treatment is accepting that you cannot control your brain and you don’t have to. The other meaning in this song is simple, I wrote this with Sixfoot 5 after my first true adult gay relationship. I experienced and felt things that I had not before.
The music video is my biggest project to date and is based off action/thriller movies, which are my favorite. It plays on power between me in drag and out of drag and is visually gorgeous, choreographically intense and overall I think very unique.

You’re also co-hosting Miss Cherry’s 2025 on the Island on August 17! What’s your best advice for any theoretical pageant contestant?
Cherry’s is not a typical pageant. Perfection is boring, and connecting with the audience is a major win. I think taking chances and trying original ideas is the way to really win on the island.
Anything else you wanna plug or say?
I want to say that it took an army to create the music video for “Control”, from my incredible production team to my fans/friends that support me online, in person and monetarily. I am humbled to have seen during this process how many people truly appreciate and believe in what I do. It also gives me appreciation for all the years of drag before this that led me here.
Finally: What diva from pop, theater, dance, drag etc. would be your dream collaborator one day?
In this current time, Tate McRae would be so fierce to have a dance duet with. Let’s make that happen. Obviously, if Britney did a track with me, I would probably drop dead. I would also love and have on my bucket list a collab with Adam Lambert. As music continues to change and grow, I will probably have more on the list. Oh and Ari, but like who wouldn’t want her on a track?
