Jake Gyllenhaal wins “Lifetime Achievement Award”

After the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmy Awards announced their winners, most everyone assumed the 2023-24 awards season was history. Not so fast! Turns out Hollywood had one more self-congratulatory show left: the Manatomy Awards, and Jake Gyllenhaal took home the top prize!

Presented by Mr. Man, the Manatomy Awards is a ceremony that recognizes the past year’s naked male achievements in film and TV.

Often referred to as the nude Oscars, the big winners at this year’s Manatomy Awards included Saltburn star Barry Keoghan who won “Best Full Frontal” and out actor Jonathan Bailey who took home two awards for his revealing scenes in Fellow Travelers. “Best Picture” was awarded to the erotic drama Passages starring Ben Whishaw and Franz Rogowski, and Jake Gyllenhaal won the coveted “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his numerous nude roles over the past two decades. Last year’s winner was Antonio Banderas.

“Male nudity in film and television has come a long way since our first Manatomy Awards back in 2014,” says Mr. Man Managing Editor Steven Attanasie. “The sheer number of nude scenes affords us the opportunity to create more categories and celebrate the depth and breadth of celebrities going naked every year.”

Streaming titles once again dominated at this year’s Manatomy Awards.

According to a press release from Mr. Man, Paramount Plus won the “Best TV Show” award for Fellow Travelers. Netflix won a “Best Scene” award for Elite. The gay streamer Dekkoo won the “Best Nudecomer” category for its series Patterns. Hulu and Amazon Prime shared the “Most Bootylicious Year” prize. It is awarded to Jon Hamm for his two back baring scenes in 2023: one in Amazon Prime’s Good Omens and the other in Hulu’s Fargo.

Also from the press release, this year’s list of winners was more diverse than ever before. South Korean actor Steven Yeun won “Best Nude Debut” for his scene in Netflix’s award season-favorite Beef. Latino actors Felipe LondoñoMauricio Hénao, and Julián Cerati received recognition for their erotic scene in Fake Profile and the Chinese-American trans actor and activist Leo Sheng was honored for his nudity in The L Word: Generation Q.

Several men over 50 took home awards this year, too.

C. Thomas Howell was recognized for his role in Obliterated and Rob Lowe won an award for his role in Unstable. For the third year in a row, Murray Bartlett was honored with a Manatomy Award. In 2022, he was awarded “Best Scene” for The White Lotus. In 2023, he won for his graphic romp with Andrew Rannells in Welcome to Chippendales. This year he wins for his scene with Nick Offerman in The Last of Us.
