DJ Scotty Rox

///By Sir Honey Davenport

Every body loves a winner, so we all love Scotty Rox, winner of both the Glam and Get Out! awards for best DJ of 2012. I’ve known Scotty longer than lacefronts, so I’m pleased as punch to shine some light on the boy behind the beat.

When did you start DJing? I started DJing back in 2007. I worked as a bartender at Soho House and got my big break while working there. Shortly after, I landed gigs at some of NYC’s best spots!

What is your greatest accomplishment as a DJ?
I put my heart and soul into “Scotty Rox” when I first started, and I never gave that dream up, even after almost losing everything when I hit rock bottom. I’ve run my own business and booked my own work since day one, and I’m so incredibly grateful to be able to survive in NYC and do what I love most – MUSIC! There are tons of talented DJs in this city, many whom I can call friends, and I’m just so honored to be amongst these guys and learn from some of the world’s best!

What has been your biggest failure as a DJ?
My biggest failure as a DJ…I wouldn’t call it a failure. I see it as a lesson learned and true life experience in which I became a better person because of. I let a lot of negative influences get the best of me at the beginning of my career, and I think what defines us is how well we rise after falling. I live life on life’s terms, and do it just for today.

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?
Stay true to who you are and use the music to express yourself! Just always remember to play for your crowd. Never play for yourself.
At the end of the day, people are escaping the harsh realities of life and wanna lose themselves in your music. Take them on that journey!

What kind of guys are you into? Describe your perfect match.
I am into various types of men. I tend to like a little flavor in my life, which explains me getting weak at the knees for Latin men. Haha. But these days, I’m looking for someone with a kind heart, someone who is humble and someone who inspires me!

What’s your dream gig?
Honestly, I’ve been blessed with such an amazing career and got to work with such talented NYC nightlife icons! I’ve truly already been blessed with a few “dream” gigs, but I have to admit one dream come true would be to work with the iconic LadyFag.

If you could do anything else other than DJ, what would it be and why?
I have a thing for criminal investigation type stuff. I would love to be part of the FBI or something along those lines!

Who do you look up to and why?
I look up to so many different NYC nightlife people in so many different ways. I get inspirations from lot of people. But most recently,
I got to DJ alongside the legendary Johnny Dynell for Penthaus, and watching him work his “magic” gave me goosebumps and makes me want to be a better DJ.

This just in! New York City nightlife is being obliterated, and you can rescue a small team of three people torevitalize it! Who would they be and why?
John Blair, Beto Sutter and Bob Pontarelli. I don’t think these names need much explanation. They are legends who have kept NYC nightlife phresh and exciting for generations! I’d also have to rescue Justin Luke and Alan Picus, because these guys are genius when it comes to throwing a party!

What’s coming up for you in the future?
I have a lot of new projects and parties in the works! This has been an exciting year so far! Stay tuned…

Where can we find you now?
Right now you can catch me…Mondays at Ice Palace in Cherry Grove – Fire Island for Shequida Show, Monthly Tuesdays at G Lounge and David Barton Gym Chelsea, every Wednesday night at Industry Bar for Sherry Vine Show, every Thursday night at Hardware for Shequida Show, Monthly Fridays at Penthaus @ Copacabana, and every Saturday night at Hardware.
