Lock your seats in the upright position and prepare to take off for the ride of your life as WE Party: Airlines lands into New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, August 31. We spoke to DJ/promoter Brett Henrichsen about bringing the event to NYC.
What took WE Party so long to make its NYC debut?
New York is one of the greatest cities in the world, and WE Party is one of the greatest touring events of all time. We wanted everything to be perfect for its first major event in the city. That meant finding the perfect venue and date and then planning everything to the last detail.
Do parties like WE Party represent the next era of the gay circuit party?
They are definitely bringing back the fun and excitement we had in the ‘90s. When the circuit died in the USA, it took off in Europe, and now we’re bringing it back with the new exciting elements that have been added.
Why is Labor Day Weekend the perfect time to jet off on a WE Party adventure?
Labor Day is one of the biggest holiday weekends of the year, especially in NYC. The city is packed with locals and tourists, all ready for an international journey on WE Party Airlines.
How will WE Party transform the Hammerstein Ballroom? We are literally turning the Hammerstein into an airport housing the world’s biggest mega-club. We’re bringing in six points of concert sound,high-res LED visuals, lasers and moving lights. NYC has never seen a party production like this!
Some readers will remember the last big gay event at Hammerstein: Victor Calderone’s landmark Caligula Pride event from 2001.
I was at that night and remember the magic of it! It’s gone down in history as one of the all-time best Pride events in NYC. It is one of the very reasons the Hammerstein was my #1 choice for this party. WE Airlines will be even bigger and better. The Hammerstein is the only venue in the city equipped to handle a party of this size.
Will there be check-in counters, gates and concessions?
Of course! There will be baggage claim, terminal announcements written by the hilarious Bruce Vilanch, our own Mile High Club and even T&A Security. Trust, you’ll enjoy being screened by these agents! We plan to recreate the airport experience, but with some fun twists and turns along the way.
Can we count on hot stewards like the guy featured on our cover?
Most definitely! We’re bringing over the entire international crew of performers from Spain to entertain you, including the steward on the cover!
You’ll be sharing the cockpit with Spain’s hottest DJ, Manuel de Diego.
Manuel and I are great friends. We played together at WE Party in Madrid. We’re both looking forward to joining NYC’s own original queen of the circuit, Morabito, as she kicks off the journey, followed by Manuel. Then I’ll end the night with some turbulence followed by a smooth landing.

What’s the next stop for WE Party after NYC?
After NYC, WE Party Airlines will travel to Los Angeles for New Year’s Eve. Then it’s off to Miami for Winter Party 2014. Catch us if you can…in NYC!
