Thorgy Thor

Thorgy Thor is one of the busiest, most unique, talented and quirkiest queens in the best possible way. Thor is also a classical musician, combining comedy with violin, fabulous fashion and a great drag personality. A contestant on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 8, and winner of numerous awards, she has taken New York and the rest of the world captive to her compelling performances. I was lucky enough to catch her during a hair appointment whilst she was preparing for what is to happen next in her life. If you don’t know her yet, this is one queen that you want to become familiar with, as she is the essence of exotic and distinctly divergent.

So what are you up to now?
What am I not up to right now!? Traveling everywhere around the globe! Meeting lots of insane fans in every city, living out of a suitcase and trying to keep it all together without passing out in an airport in Belfast (which I did). I made the mistake of mentioning my Thorchestra too soon I guess, so now every city I go to asks, “Why didn’t you bring your orchestra with you?” as if I can charter a plane filled with 40 players. Hint: I am looking for investors. Ha! It will happen, but not on a 5×5 stage in West Virginia.  I am working on a few very big ideas, but anyone who knows me knows I’m a very anxiety-ridden control freak who wants everything to be perfect or not done at all. So, things take time with me. I’m working on bringing back Thorgy in Love for Valentine’s Day. And I’m excited to join my season 8 sisters, along with Alyssa, Latrice, Pearl and Tatiana for a xmas queens tour across America, starting in November. I’m hoping fans don’t lose interest once the new set of whores on Season 9 hit the ground running.  Let’s see, I’m still writing my children’s show for adults called “thorgy does children”  and with my time at home im going through an overhaul of my extensive collection of vintage clothing and costumes. I’ve been an eBay seller since 2002- so I’m going to slowly start auctioning some great stuff off through my website- look for links! I’ve always had three loves – the art of drag, string playing and vintage costumes. ….. And Jane Fonda , let’s be honest.

What will you be doing for Halloween?
Ahhhh! I always get so excited when that crisp smell of decaying leaves is in the air. Halloween is my favorite time of the year. I will be working in Chicago on the 28th, Houston the 29th and throwing a killer BROOKLYN style HALLOWEEN EVE party at metropolitan bar in Williamsburg on Sunday the 30th. Joining me will be my Brooklyn sisters Ragamuffin and Miz Jade and special guest Dida Ritz of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 4. Come!  Expect shows and blood and a night to remember.

I never ask this question to a queen, but I can’t resist asking you. How did you get your name?
Happy you asked! I was just chatting about my grandpa Thor earlier today. I was named after him (middle name). And my last name begins with a G. Thor G. So, it’s my real name, kind of. My grandpa was an Olympic ski jumper for Norway, could build literally anything, was a naval officer, on the Norwegian national soccer team and made a hell of a rice pudding. I’m very proud to carry a superhero name.

How was the UK?
Literally just got back from a UK tour (where I partnered with my season 8 chick Robbie Turner and got to meet up with the hot commodity cosplay crazy person Phi Phi O’Hara in Dublin). I had to illegally download each episode of “All Stars,” and this season was DRAMA and worth every second. I auditioned for the show for eight years and envied the queens who traveled the world. Now I’m now getting to enjoy those perks and make connections along the way. I couldn’t be more grateful. In London I met up with Michelle Visage and Tituss Burgess (who is just as genuine, magnetic, brilliant and cooky as his character on “Unbreakable”). We made dinner plans when we are both in New York. I also saw Bjork perform with a beautiful orchestra of 36 players to promote Bjork Digital (which brought me to tears more than once). At the after party, I got to sit down with Bjork, and she mentioned that her daughter is a fan of the show, and I was their favorite queen of the season. We talked art, strings and then made out. No, but her daughter burst into excitement when I said hello to her. They watched every episode while in Japan. So, you may see Thorgy on strings with Bjork.  #goals. The gigs were great! Fans are crazy! And drinks are weak and expensive. LOL.

What was your favorite “RuPaul” experience?
One time in the work room during the snatch game episode, RuPaul was walking around to each one of the queens and chatting while the cameras were rolling.  When the cameras were off, he was standing by my station and picked up my Alexander Wang leather tote bag and said, “Whose is this?” I replied, “That’s mine.” Ru goes, “Well, you better keep an eye on it, because I might steal this shit on my way out.” We all laughed, and I said, “Ru, you can have it for $100,000!” We had a moment. Now we are best friends. Actually, that’s him calling me right now.

Are there any new projects on the horizon for you? What are your plans for the year coming up?
I mentioned before about a children’s show for adults. I’d really like to accomplish that and present the first concert of the Thorchestra in New York. I have had the honor of playing with some brilliant professional players over the years. They always said to me, “I love your drag shows! Whenever you need string players, I’m in!” So I’m cashing in all my chips and calling every single one of those clowns. It will be a night of drag ridiculousness paired with beautiful orchestral works. Very New York. It will be rewarding for me to present a show in a theater space. On another note, a Christmas album is coming out with a bunch of characters. I had the pleasure of recording violin on a track with Michelle Visage.
