This year’s Get Out Awards was a phenomenal celebration of talent, achievement, excellence, and glitter and glam. The awards were more than just an event bringing the love of diversity and the LGBTQ+ community together but also acknowledgement of hard work, giving back and a dazzling array of pride, support, friendship and love all under one roof made possible by publisher Mike Todd who for the past 15 plus years ran a publication that served the nightlife community and became the number 7 best LGBTQ+ magazine on the planet.
The Dickens, a multilevel inclusive, and immersive cocktail bar, offering themed spaces, including a rooftop located in the iconic area of Hell’s Kitchen at 48th Street on 8th Avenue in New York City was a splashing frenzy of the wild, unpredictable, and spontaneous antics which left the patrons entertained, energized, exhilarated and victorious.
Host Ariel Sinclair and co-host Kimmi Moore “Brought it” on many different levels. Their performances were spot on and they kept the show moving with an unrestrained energy leading the ceremonies through surprising twists and turns and making the night a collective experience. Nightlife’s iconic DJ Stevie Sidewalk flawlessly played the music despite receiving much of the performer’s music at literally the very last minute.
Aside from the spectacular performances by Ariel & Kimmi there was a salacious showcase from singer, actress, and New York cabaret sensation, and the Rita Hayworth of modern times Quinn Lemley who was recently honored as Best Vocalist of the Year by BroadwayWorld. Screamin’ Rachael former club kid and Queen of House Music did a rousing house/EDM mix that brought everyone to their feet. House recording artist and actress Irene Michaels tantalized the crowd with her hit “My Last Love” and then performed her hit single “My Heart” with rapper Twizm Whyte Piece who raised the roof, all were introduced by SohoJohnny owner of Tribeca Records.
The Queens always immensely talented began their performances with Emperor XXXlll Jeffrey ll & Empress XXXVlll Ruby Starling of the Imperial Court of New York, a true demonstration of royalty. JizzaBella, Bootsie LeFaris, Morgan Roy’el, Chara Confusion, and Eiby Leandra who was the perfect Shakira, followed with flawless comedy, song, laughter and pure joy.
