Shangela Laquifa Wadley’s NIGHT of the LIVING DRAG

The Drag Race Icon Co-Hosts HalloQueen at Liberty Theatre in NYC

The first time I ever saw “Drag Race” sensation Shangela she was descending from the huge ceiling at the Liberty Theatre, inside a chandelier to center stage, for Bianca Del Rio’s Roast, like Glinda the Good Witch from the “Wizard of Oz” in her bubble.

The beautiful Shangela (aka Darius J. Pierce) appeared on “Drag Race” seasons two and three. She currently performs all over the U.S. and Canada while appearing on various reality television shows. And to her credit, she was the first male cheerleader in her local high school since 1968.

On Friday, October 30, Shangela, along with “Drag Race” alumni Willam, will host “Night of the Living Drag” at the Liberty Theatre, 233 West 41st St., between 7th and 8th Ave. The Brandon Voss event will feature performances by Alyssa Edwards, GIa Gum, Jujubee, Katya, Latrice Royale, Jinkx Monsoon, Raja, Laganja Estranja, Shangela, Willam and current “Drag Race” winner Violet Chachki. Music will be supplied by DJ Lady Bunny. Tickets for this event can be purchased now at VossEvents.com.

I had an amazingly fun, impromptu conversation with Shangela as she spoke about this upcoming extravaganza. That and the following night, a huge party at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, promises to be a “Hallo Queen Apocalypse” the likes of which New York City has never known.

So tell me about this party.
Well, we are very excited! I’m excited working again with Brandon Voss on “Night of the Living Drag,” the party at the Liberty Theatre on Friday, October 30.

That is so exciting!
Yes, it’s a night when smoke is going to meet glamour, it’s going to meet creativity, it’s going to meet New York City! Get ready! I’m co-hosting it with Willam Belli.
I love Willam.
With Willam and I at the mic, honey, it’s gonna be a night of foolishness and fun. Willam is unpredictable, you see.

So that’s Friday, October 30.
It’s going to be phenomenal.

Now, who’s coming?
It’s going to be myself and Willam, then we got Alyssa Edwards, Jujubee, Raja, Jinkx Monsoon is coming, Latrice Royale, Katya, Laganja Estranja, and the winner of last season, Violet Chachki will be there. Oh, yeah!

A Brandon Voss party, how fun.
You know, those are always something to talk about. We are very excited. There are going to be lots of surprises, so anyone that wants to do Halloween big in New York, this is the place to be.

Yes; we did Bianca’s Roast there. I was the one that came down from the ceiling in the chandelier.

I’m scared, in a good way.
We are going to have a phenomenal time. You know, any party that Brandon Voss puts on is always something to talk about the next day. So we are ready!

What surprises are in store?
Well, if I told you, they wouldn’t be surprises. The performances that night are going to be spectacular. It’s something that you don’t want to miss. So this is on the 30th of October at the Liberty Theatre. You know me, honey, I’m coming in a box!
