INTERVIEW >>>
You’re returning to perform at 103.5 KTU’s New Jersey and Long Island shows. What does it mean to be part of these concerts and reconnect with such devoted fans?
It’s a wonderful feeling to be part of this event. This is where I started. Long Island is my home and was my home for many years. I started singing with a band in Hempstead, Long Island, so I’m coming back home and I’m gonna leave it all on this stage.
“Show Me Love” remains one of the most recognizable dance songs of all time. What is it like hearing thousands of people sing every word back to you decades after its release?
Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine something like this lasting this long, but I’m thankful! I feel honored, quite honestly. I feel like God has gifted me the ability to build a legacy and few people get the opportunity to experience that. I am eternally grateful. Sometimes you run across songs that take you down memory lane and then other times there are songs that take you through your entire life. I am honored to have THAT song that takes you through life.
New Jersey and Long Island have always had vibrant dance music scenes. What makes performing for audiences in this region so special?
As I do every time I hit the stage, it’s to give back to those who have given me 35+ years of support and love.
Looking back over your incredible catalog and career, with songs such as “Back It Up,” “I Want to Thank You” and “Luv 4 Luv,” is there a particular live performance or career milestone that stands out as especially meaningful?
Every place that I’ve performed, I consider a milestone in my life. I take nothing for granted. Every face that I see, a place that I walk into, I’m humbled by every experience. I feel extremely blessed to still be living a dream of a little girl from St. Albans, Queens.
Your music continues to cross generations, with younger audiences discovering and embracing your songs. What is it like seeing a whole new generation connect with your music and sing along with you?
To be on the receiving end of the accolades, the applause, the singalong, the support and the love is one of the best feelings. Simply because it confirms that I am still leaving a mark and I’m still applying the pressure of loving yourself.
I 100% appreciate the fact that the younger generation is listening to my music and I hope and pray that I can continually feed their souls and deliver positive messages.

You’ve performed on countless stages around the world, but there’s something special about a huge summer, outdoor crowd. What can fans expect when Robin S. steps onto the Beatstock stage?
Well, I don’t know if you know it or not, but my music is not the type that you’re gonna sit and cross your arms to. You’re not gonna be still! Outdoor venues represents freedom to move, freedom to dance, freedom to commune with one another. Music is a vibe within itself and being able to socialize at the same time is a wonderful experience. As far as what they can expect from me, I’ll just say this: ‘LOCK N’ LOAD, BABY, THE TRAIN IS COMING THROUGH’ !
After two nights of Beatstock—Holmdel Aug 15 and Jones Beach Aug 16—what do you hope the audience walks away feeling after your performance?
EVERYTHING I’ve left on the stage and then some! Lol.
As you continue to tour and inspire audiences around the world, your latest release, “Because of You,” is such a powerful and motivational song. We’re hoping to hear it live at Beatstock! What else can your fans look forward to?
You know, I become so amazed when people mention other songs that I have written. My name is synonymous with one song, and although it is the staple song and maybe the soundtrack to some people’s lives, it warms my heart when someone mentions other songs that I’ve included in my life and in my catalogue. People know them or have heard them so, thank you.
