Michael Ng: A Fall Cabaret at Uncle Charlie’s

Nestled in the heart of Manhattan, at 139 E 45th Street between Lexington and 3rd, one flight up, is the fabulous, Uncle Charlie’s piano bar. Near Grand Central Station, it has some of the hottest bartenders and best piano players that the city has to offer. It’s open every single night from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. with nightly events all week long.

A convenient location for a happy hour, it’s a great venue to walk in and have a cocktail, and just relax to the sound of the piano lounge. You might even want to sing along if the mood or the song hits you. It also has an outside terrace and great customer reviews. Every Sunday this fall, Uncle Charlie’s will be featuring  a cabaret night with a different line up  each week, something new for the bar.

Michael Ng, esteemed owner and a really nice, down-to-earth guy, took some time to talk to Get Out! about the fall season.

Michael, I understand that you have added a new event to Uncle Charlie’s for the fall.
We are featuring Sunday nights. We have a new cabaret show on Sundays.

When does that start?
It has already started. It’s going on every Sunday night.

And during the week?
We are open every night. We have different piano players, like Sarah Glassman. Usually bars don’t have girl piano players, but she is really good, and everyone comes in to see her. Friday is more casual. People want to relax after work; they are tired after work. Saturday we have go-go boys, drink specials and some really good bartenders. It’s a great location, right near Grand Central Station and a lot of the office buildings, so it’s easy to just come in and have a drink.

You have a separate piano lounge too?
We have different piano players. People can come in and listen or sing with them. Everyone is welcome. All people come in, straight or gay. We have like an open mic there too. But Sunday night is a really good show.
