Lady Bunny returns to NYC with a scorching set list of her trademark raunchy song parodies and one-liners this month in Lady Bunny: Hot Troll Summer, beginning June 19 through July 6 at Green Room 42.
The drag legend will take the stage for four shows, presenting a round-up of comedy classics including her version of La Cage Aux Folles’ “I Am What I Am” re-named “I Am Such a Ham” and a re-imagined version of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” that calls out members of the LGBTQ+ community who are too-often over-looked.
“It’s my honorarium to lesbians, size queens and scat freaks,” Bunny explains, adding that it is “high time they are recognized and celebrated, too!”
Additional showstopping numbers include Bunny’s new single, “Is It Ozempic…Or AIDS?”, where she finally addresses the questions related to her dramatic weight loss; her ode to Fire Island’s notorious Meat Rack; and a biting non-PC parody of RuPaul’s hit single, “Sissy the Walk,” about the monkeypox epidemic. She shades the HBO show, We’re Here and in a number about drag queen story hours, Bunny parodies Adele’s hit single, “Rumour Has It”, rewritten as “Groomer Has It.”
“My act is vulgar,” Lady Bunny confirms. “ Lady Bunny: Hot Troll Summer is not appropriate for kids. It’s not even appropriate for most adults!”
Lady Bunny is an internationally beloved drag icon. She has been a Manhattan gal since the early 80s, and is most famous for co-founding and emceeing Wigstock, the annual New York City Labor Day outdoor drag festival that ran for nearly twenty years.
Her comic genius has been featured in films and television, including on three seasons of RuPaul’s Drag U. Currently. Bunny appears in the new art film, Playland, that Variety calls “a haunting and haunted collage of queer history comes to life.” It was recently picked up for distribution by Janus Films.
The New York Times calls Lady Bunny “the city’s reigning drag queen.” Vogue says she “represents the heart of what drag is all about.” Who are we to argue?
