This Week’s #ChangeTheGame Examines the State of Hooking Up

Twenty five years ago, the pop singer LaTour first declared “People Are Still Having Sex”.  According to a new poll out by Jack’d, they still are.

68% of men surveyed by Jack’d reported that they use the app to hook-up. 51% said they used the  app  in  hopes  of  finding  a  long-term relationship. Even less (23%) said they used it as a way to simply connect with other guys.

So  why  are  those  who  seek  sex  on  apps  judged  so  harshly  in  the community?    It’s what  Jack’d,  in  its  eight-week  #ChangeTheGame initiative,  is asking members to reflect on this week.

“Sex  is  natural  and  many  guys  really  enjoy  it,  so why is there so much app-shaming?”  wonders  Russell Horsey,   Marketing  and Social  Media  Specialist at Jack’d.

Jack’d is asking the community to visit http://www.jackdapp.com/changethegame/sex-is-natural-why-are-those-who-seek-it-judged/ or its social pages, and share the criticism that they have received for hooking up for sex with men through apps. They’re also asking those who judge to explain why they believe they’re compelled to do so.   The hope is that by opening the topic to discussion, it might break the stigma associated with hooking up for sex on apps.   “Jack’d is all about sexual positivity and a live and let live attitude,” Horsey says.

The #ChangeTheGame initiative is aimed at challenging   preconceived   notions of   what   it   means   to   be  gay today.  Each week,   the campaign focuses on a new  topic  of  special  relevance  to  the  community  of  guys  that  use Jack’d. Topics  include  the  dangers  of  labels in the community,  measuring  self esteem, and the importance of activism.
