iCandy an Evening With Peppermint

Kicking off WorldPride, the illustrious RuPaul queen and Broadway sensation Peppermint will be presenting a one-woman, live cabaret show at Gramercy Theater on June 28, 2019. The show will feature Cazwell and is sponsored by MAC. It will showcase the life of Peppermint after RuPaul.

A stable and popular fixture in New York City’s dazzling nightlife, Peppermint is an actress, singer, TV personality and activist. She is also the first trans woman to be cast in a major Broadway role in the play Head Over Heels.

I exchanged questions and answers with Miss Peppermint regarding WorldPride, her upcoming live show and her future endeavors.

With WorldPride quickly approaching, how are you planning to celebrate?
Of course I’m looking to all of the world-class New York City nightlife and WorldPride events and parties and the parade. I’m going to try to enrich myself and dive into the rich history of our community. But most importantly, I’m doing a one-woman live cabaret show at Gramercy Theater on June 28 to kick off Pride weekend!

You’re doing an event with Cazwell. Can you talk about that: where, when, how and what?
Yes, it is “iCandy, an Evening With Peppermint.” It was actually named by Carson Kressley, so I might have to send him $5 or something. Anyway, I’m performing for the first time at Gramercy Theater, complete with dancers, a live band and my bestie Cazwell. We are also going to be debuting some new music. The show covers everything that happens to me between “Drag Race” and today, basically a year in review. I’ll be finishing off the weekend riding on the MAC Cosmetics float for the third time in a row during the Pride March. That show is also sponsored by MAC. I have a great relationship with them, and I’m really happy that they’ve been able to support me.

What did you walk away with from your Broadway experience?
I have a chance to see how different people work. It really got me into shape with getting into drag early and during the day. Most of all I walked away with a sense of bonding and community from the Broadway family.

Any new music on the horizon?
Yes. I can’t say I have a new album ready yet, but I’m writing some new music right now. I’ll probably try some of it out at the show on the 28th.

I know you love to travel. Where will your travels bring you this summer and beyond?
I will be traveling to Europe again and doing some traveling in the United States. I’ve been spending a lot of time at home, surprisingly. Just got back from the Los Angeles Pride. It was so much fun!

Did I hear that you were doing a weekly podcast?
That’s totally true. Cazwell and I are kicking off our podcast this year; the launch is Pride Week. We’re both very excited. It’s going to be an advice podcast where listeners can write in with all of their deep-burning questions, and we give really bad advice. It’s going to be all the rage.

Aside from all of the things I’ve mentioned, are there any new projects in the works?
I just finished watching season one of “Pose” in preparation for season
two. I attended the premiere, and it was so fantastic. I think people are going to be in for some real surprises, and maybe even a sweet treat, if you know what I mean.
