2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the Dance on the Pier, which began in 1986 as an act of rebellion in a time when LGBT people could not safely dance together in public. It is also the final year the event will take place on Hudson River Park’s Pier 26, which is being transformed into a recreation space and estuarium.
Fergie joins the ranks of Cher, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande and numerous other superstars who have delivered historic performances at the Dance. More than 7,500 people are expected to attend the Dance, which has sold out for the past several years.
“Fergie is a stellar singer-songwriter, a world-class performer, and a long-time advocate for LGBT people,” said Jose Ramos, NYC Pride Dance on the Pier Director. “This is a performance that our guests will be talking about for years to come.”
The Dance on the Pier is NYC Pride’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds support NYC Pride’s other public events, including the Rally, March, and Family Movie Night. Heritage of Pride also provides tens of thousands of dollars in working grants to smaller LGBT nonprofits from the funds raised at the Dance.
“For the last 30 years, some of the most unforgettable memories of NYC Pride have happened at the Dance on the Pier,” said Chris Frederick, NYC Pride Managing Director. “We can’t wait for Fergie to bring the house down one last time at Pier 26, and we’re eager to see what our largest fundraiser can become in 2017 and beyond.” album slated for release in 2016.
“I’m so honored to be performing at the 30th Dance on the Pier at NYC Pride, the largest LGBT Pride celebration in the world.
There have been so many incredible artists who have performed at this landmark event in the past, and we’re going to create
something extra special to celebrate this milestone,” says Fergie.
