DRAG CON – Get Out! Magazine – NYC’s Gay Magazine

DRAG CON

I stood on the press line in awe of the thousands of people entering RuPaul’s DragCon at the Jacob Javits center earlier this month. The place was mobbed and colorful, and by noon on Saturday they had already run out of tickets. It was an all-star, lavish occasion, with all the opulence expected from a “Drag” affair.

Everyone who is anyone was there, including Michelle Visage, Peppermint, Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen and the fabulous winner of this season’s competition, Sasha Velour, along with RuPaul herself.

I was honored to be invited to say a quick hello to Peppermint and Sasha without waiting on the lines of 200 people or more who were there for a picture with royalty. I also got to hug the decadent Shangela in all her glory, and say a fabulous hello to the Lips team and Yvonne Lame, its audacious owner.

There is nothing in the world like a drag queen, and to be in the same room with all of the best drag has to offer was an amazing honor for me, as well as the thousands who showed up for the event.
