Doug Langway of Bear City 3
The first “Bear City” film, which debuted in 2010, won seven awards in various film festivals. With the community begging for more, “Bear City 2: The Proposal” followed shortly behind. Now, by popular demand, director Doug Langway does it again. “Bear City 3,” the last of the trilogy, is slated to begin production momentarily… only with an amazing twist.
Langway is offering a chance for anyone to be in this worldwide production of “Bear City 3.” For details how to be an extra in the film or get a signed script of the production, get your Growlr account showcased (perhaps get lucky) or even name the baby, go immediately to www.indeigogo.com/projects/bear-city-3/#/story
I had a fabulous conversation with Langway, and it went something like this.
Doug, are you a bear?
Yes, yes, definitely.
So tell us a little about “Bear City 3.”
This is actually the third in the trilogy. It’s about bears. It takes place a few years after the last one in which our summer couple in the spotlight gets married. The first film was about finding self-acceptance and self-worth. The second one was about being able to create a life together, and this one is basically about being able to give what you can to a child, so its about fathering.
Is this a comedy or drama?
It is a “dramedy.” It’s situational. It’s about the lifestyle of being a bear. It’s very touching and very moving. There are fun lines and funny lines.
I have a bear friend named Joe Manetti.
Joe Manetti was in the first film.
No way, I love him! So you are in the process of doing a fundraiser for the film. Can you explain what’s involved.
In the first and second film, I created this concept of using your picture. People sent us photographs. They all wanted to be a part of it. What’s great about it is that you see all these images of people. It went to so many festivals. We even ended up in a straight festival where people saw the film and thought, “Wow, this is really great.” What I realized is that everybody wants to help. So when I realized that people wanted to get involved, we made our photo program an even bigger program.
So new people who donate can actually be part of or even in the film? That sounds so incredible.
They can even put their Growlr profile up, and since this will be a worldwide release, maybe they can even find somebody.
Exactly what is the fundraiser for?
It’s a fundraiser to put the movie into production.
You guys are a lot of fun, and even a little crazy.
Yeah, we are. Bear week is coming up next week!
