David Guetta: “Listen”

Aside from the fact that every track on the album is titanic and a joy to listen to, the music as well as the lyrics are overwhelmingly majestic and jubilant. David Guetta is an enormously successful DJ, songwriter and dance music producer who had a huge impact on creating the popular EDM music played in clubs throughout the world. With this new release he announces the end of the era, while introducing a new musical sound, which promises to have a palatable effect on today’s sound. The music on “Listen” comes directly from the heart of this music producer with the help of such featured artists as Nicki Minaj, Sia, Bebe Rexha, Skylar Grey, Afrojack, Nicky Romero and John Legend, who melodically and soulfully sings the track “Listen.”

The lead track and current single, “Dangerous,” opens the album with singer Sam Martin (a singer previously unknown). It is funky, powerful and larger than life! “No Money, No Love” is a reggae-house hybrid, both seductive and profound, that you just cannot stop singing to yourself. “Whisper,” the final song, is a musically forceful and commanding tune filled with colossal melody and instruments. My own personal favorite, “When the Sun Goes Down,” is a monumentally romantic song with a reggae beat infused with an EDM base, a song I just keep listening to again and again. “I’ll Keep Loving You” by Jaymes Young and Birdy is a heartfelt ballad, deep and genuine, as is “What I Did for Love” featuring Emeli Sande. Nicki Minaj belts out “Hey Mama” along with Afrojack with their unique style and talent.

All in all there isn’t a song on the album that I wished to skip because I wasn’t enjoying it. The magic of this release is paved with an air of intrigue and nobility. David Guetta has created a dignified and glorious inspirational album. Take this musical journey with David as these songs clearly emanate from his very soul.
