Today the world lost a musical Messiah. David Bowie, one of Glam Rock’s most cherished and epic influences died from his 18th month struggle with cancer. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, fans, and the world. He touched the lives of millions with his ethereal music , his space age spirit and his epic genus.
His release of his 25th album “Blackstar” was given to the world on his 69th birthday on January 8th, a final gift to the world, although his words and song will live on forever. He was years ahead of his time, with his “Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust”, and his “spiders From Mars”, a true spaceman.
He was also an talented actor in “The Man Who Fell to Earth”, where he portrayed an alien trying to save his dying planet and in his lead role on Broadway in “The Elephant Man”. His songs included : “China Girl”, “Let’sDance”, “Modern Love”, “Changes”.. And so many more.
He was born in London as David Jones, and revealed in a 1972 interview that he was gay in order to stir up some PR for Ziggy Stardust. He began wearing women’s clothing and dyed his hair bright orange, and the album became a historical extravaganza. He was given a lifetime achievement Grammy in 2006.
David Bowie will be missed…..but never forgotten.
