When did you first start singing?
I first started singing at the age of 12, and professionally started singing and taking vocal lessons at the age of 22.
Give me a brief synopsis of your career thus far.
I currently have a new song out with Latin Grammy nominated, “Love & Hip Hop” cast member Anais, a classic Spanish remake of “Quiero Amanecer Con Alguien,” originally written and performed by Daniela Romo. Anais and I made a guest appearance and performed at Atlas Social Club , hosted by Manny Fierro. “Lo Que Son Las Cosas” is another song of mine released that’s getting major airplay on Latin station 96.3.
What inspired you to become a singer?
My inspiration and strength actually comes from my father, Gary Jose Mendez, God rest his soul, who passed away when I was 17. He was a bartender, singer, played guitar in Houston, Texas, and Azua, Dominican Republic—local events where he would string me along.
Where do you hope to take your music in the future?
In the future I hope my brand becomes mainstream in the Latin and English genre. I see myself becoming mainstream.
If you could give your younger self advice, what would it be?
What would I tell myself at a young age? Don’t wear your heart on your sleeve, and stay focused and positive—first reactions aren’t always a good reaction.
