Cherry Jubilee – The 19th Annual Glam Awards

This year’s Glam Awards celebrates its 19th year of sparkle and glamour honoring the very best of New York City’s nightlife. In a spectacular extravaganza, the nominees await their destiny, which will be unveiled on January 21, 2018. Year after year, founder and producer Cherry Jubilee creates a venue of appreciation for the talent and hard work of those involved in the best nightlife in the world.

This year the hosts will be “RDR” alumni Peppermint and Thorgy Thor. Entertainers include Chris Weaver of this season of “The Voice” as well as popular queen Brita Filter. I spoke with the seemingly calm Cherry Jubilee, who awarded us a small preview of the evening.

On behalf of Get Out! Magazine, we want to wish all of this year’s nominees the best of luck. We would also like to thank Cherry for years of very hard work putting this all together, and honoring all of New York City’s finest.

What are you looking forward to most this year?
Every year I look forward to the great energy of the evening, bringing all the best in NYC nightlife together to celebrate each other. It’s like a big family reunion. Also the amazing performances!

Who are some of the performers that will headline this year at the awards?
We have the super-talented, six-time Glam Award nominee Brita Filter! Brita has turned out huge production numbers in the past and is promising us something epic this year. Newcomers to the Glam Awards are the fantastic Glam Award-nominated group Shirley House. They are bringing their high-energy best.

Another Best Group nominee, Stephanie’s Child, are also gracing the Glam Awards stage with the drag trio’s amazing live vocals. And speaking of powerhouse vocals, this season’s “The Voice” contestant Chris Weaver, aka Nedra Belle, will be performing! And Entertainer of the Year nominee Honey Davenport will be performing with both Best Male Performer Jayse Vegas and the cast of the off-Broadway musical play Trinkets. That’s just a few of the fabulous performers to expect!

Is there anything new and different this year that will be happening?
We are at a new venue this year. Unfortunately, the venue [at which] we planned on having this year’s ceremony, Stage 48, caught fire recently and is now closed. Luckily we have time to find a new venue.

Who will be hosting?
“Drag Race” stars and NYC nightlife legends Peppermint and Thorgy Thor! Both are multiple Glam Award winners and have hosted in past, prior to “Drag Race” stardom. But they’ve never hosted together. They are two of my favorite people and amazing hosts. So it’s going to be a blast. I’m so excited!

How many categories are there, and when and how will the voting begin?
We have 22 categories. Most of them are voted on by people who work in NYC nightlife, but two categories are open to the general public. Go to glamawards.net to vote. Voting is happening now!

How can one obtain a ticket to the awards?
VIP tickets and general admission tickets will be sold online as well as at the door Glam Awards evening. But get those VIP tickets quickly. They are limited and sell out fast.

Any final thoughts that you wish to leave us with?
I’m so thrilled to be have been able to put this magical night together over the past 19 years. Our 20th anniversary show is happening next year! It’s gonna be a spectacle! And there is so much great talent in NYC nightlife right now. So much new talent too. Go out there and support these artists at their weekly gigs.
