Buster Poindexter: A Live Review Of One Of the Best

“A Night to Remember”

It seems as though each time I celebrate the appearance of Buster Poindexter, ( AKA David Johansen, lead singer of “The New York Doll”), at the opulent “Carlyle Cafe”, his shows become more sensational.

The moment the striking and elegant artist took the stage, it was as though an old friend had come to entertain at an intimate party.

“It never gets old”, ” Isn’t he wonderful”, the audience yelled and applauded as they sang along with Buster. I glanced at the sold out seating of the luxurious venue, and couldn’t help but notice the familiar faces glowing with joy and laughter as the cabaret Messiah showcased his song and humor. His productions are becoming more popular and enormously comfortable. His impressive band helped create the music and vocal harmony.

Some of the highlights of the performance included Poindexter’s superbly done rendition of ” Piece of My Heart”, a song I believed only Janis Joplin could pull off until tonight, his use of the harmonica, he’s one of the the best, and his epic grande finale. He called his beautiful wife ,”Mara” to the stage, and together they performed the song he’s best known for as Buster, “Hot, Hot, Hot”, while they proceeded to exit the platform and lead the entire congregation in a Conga line around the crowded room. The fact that show ended with an ovation was of no surprise.

The family affair continued even after the performance had ended, when he and Mara greeted everyone and took pictures with those who wanted to pose. He will continent his 2 week residency at The Cafe Carlyle through February 6th. For more information say a prayer to get tickets, as they are selling fast, and visit Buster Poindexter on Facebook and Twitter.
