The Most Humble Queen
To say Annie’s style is somewhat unique is an understatement! One evening, Jeff Livingston called and informed me that he heard we did drag shows. I told him I produced them, but in the back of my mind I had little faith in Annie Manildoo, since I never heard of her, nor had anyone else. When she showed up to perform, her painting , wig and style were “different” than anything I had seen or was accustomed to seeing. I told her, “Let’s see what you can do.” She performed her first number using her own voice and style, and I, along with the audience, left enchanted with her. Since then, I have watched her grow into something wonderful.
Annie Manildoo is truly a team player and a humble queen loved by all. She continues to make us laugh with her campy humor, amazing costumes and different type of drag. She will be performing at the Get Out! Awards on October 5. Don’t miss her!
What do you love most about drag?
What I love most about drag is how I am able to express my creative personality. I love to perform in front of a crowd as well as styling outfits, hair, makeup and creating props. Doing drag allows me to find a fun and different way to put all my passions into one thing.
Just one short year ago you were a boy. What made you want to try drag?
One year ago I actually didn’t have any interest in doing drag. I always watched drag shows and was friends with many drag queens, but I never thought about doing it myself. On Halloween of last year I did drag just for fun. After that night, I was hooked! I got more and more ideas of outfits and hair and makeup, and it all took off from there.
You were Miss Newcomer 2013. What did it feel like to win?
On Sept. 1, 2013, I won the title of Miss Newcomer 2013! It was an amazing feeling to win. I worked very hard to get my performance, props, outfit and routine down for the pageant. It was a whole year of me performing and practicing for this night, and it felt so rewarding that all of my hard work paid off. I feel that my talent and passion for drag is most definitely recognized after winning the crown.
You were like an overnight success! What was your motivation?
My motivation behind my success was definitely my passion for what I do and to show my friends and family what I’m all about. I’m the youngest of six kids in which we are all close-knit. I wanted my family to be proud of me and to appreciate and understand the art behind what I do.
What do you see for yourself in the future?
In my future I see myself only becoming more and more successful. I see myself owning my own hair salon. I see myself with a beautiful house and family to share it all with. I plan to continue any passion I have and to succeed in anything I do, whether it’s doing drag, being a hairdresser, becoming an actor or anything else I decide to do! I want the best for myself. I will have it one day!
