BRING IT’S RAINING QUEENS TO SONY HALL THIS PRIDE

A powerhouse evening of music, comedy and storytelling is headed to New York this summer as legendary vocalist Martha Wash — best known for her unmistakable voice on dancefloor anthems like “It’s Raining Men” and “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” — joins forces with acclaimed comedian and actress Marsha Warfield, celebrated for her Emmy-nominated career and beloved role on Night Court, for It’s Raining Queens.

The dynamic dual-headline experience arrives at Sony Hall on June 28.

Presented by Do-Kwa Productions, It’s Raining Queens is a bold new live concept blending iconic music with razor-sharp comedy. Designed as a 75–90 minute seated, theater-style experience, the production seamlessly weaves together Wash’s era-defining vocals with Warfield’s commanding stand-up and cultural commentary, creating a show that feels part concert, part comedy set, and part intimate conversation.

INTERVIEW >>>

The title It’s Raining Queens immediately evokes camp, glamour and joy, but also resilience. What does the word “queen” personally mean to each of you in 2026?

Martha Wash:  Queen means standing 10 toes down in what you think and believe, and not caring what others think.

Marsha Warfield:  Queen is a demotion from Goddess, but I’ll take it to work with Martha, since she has obviously accepted the term, too.

How does performing in a close-up, theater-style environment like Sony Hall change the way you connect with an audience?

Martha Wash: It’s the vibe for me. If we’re all in tune with each other, then it doesn’t matter if it’s 500 or 5,000.

Marsha Warfield:  I love cabaret-style intimacy with an audience. That being said, I will work a truckstop restroom if they pay me enough.

What excites you most about this collaboration?

Marsha Warfield:  Martha Wash excites me most. Are you kidding? Have you heard Martha sing?  What else is there?

Martha Wash:  The excitement for me is working with Marsha. I have always been a fan of hers.

Martha, your music has been the soundtrack to liberation and joy for generations, while Marsha, your comedy has often challenged audiences to confront uncomfortable truths. How do you balance celebration and social commentary in a Pride show taking place at such a politically charged moment?

Martha Wash:  I choose to celebrate, but I’m also keenly aware of the social commentary that’s out there. If something pops into my head, I just might say it and let the chips fall where they may!

Marsha Warfield:  I think most audiences want to hear somebody say what they don’t know they think. Our info sources are not designed to pull back the curtain on the naked emperors or snake oil selling “wizards,” but it’s what I love to do most.

What do you hope audiences take home from the show?

Marsha Warfield:  They’re gonna dance out of this show younger, lighter and grinning more than they did when they walked in. They will have heard Martha Wash sing and hopefully they’ll recall that the opening act was pretty good, too.

Martha Wash:  My hope is that they had a great time with two legends who are still at it.
