Jae XO Casts a Spell on NYC with ‘Dancin’ in the Full Moon’
New York City’s nightlife just got a little more magical. Rising transgender pop artist Jae XO, a regular performer at some of NYC’s most iconic gay clubs, has unleashed their most bewitching release yet with “Dancin’ in the Full Moon.” The sultry, high-energy dance-pop anthem—produced by Velvet Code and recorded with three-time Grammy-winning engineer Denise Barbarita—is a hypnotic fusion of disco grooves, infectious hooks, and witchy mysticism that feels tailor-made for the Halloween season.
The idea for “Dancin’ in the Full Moon” came to Jae in the most unexpected way. Struggling with writer’s block one night in their Manhattan apartment, they turned to a personal ritual—brewing a herbal blend of peppermint, lavender, rose, and rosemary—to spark creativity. “As the steam filled the kitchen, so did the rhythm,” Jae recalls. “It was the fastest I’ve ever written a song. Within days, I had a full demo ready.” The track was later perfected in the studio, where Jae’s mystical inspiration transformed into an anthem of empowerment and self-expression.
At its heart, the single celebrates trans resilience and power. “Trans people are mystical, powerful beings who fight through hell and back just to live authentically,” Jae says. “Dancin’ in the Full Moon is about harnessing that inner magic, charging ourselves with confidence, and finding joy in the fight.” The track pulses with Jae’s signature energy that fans first fell in love with on their breakout hit “Fabulous,” but this time with an even bolder edge. “This one is sexier, catchier, and more thrilling than anything else I’ve ever written,” Jae promises.
Whether spinning on the dance floor at The Q, Club Cumming, or Industry Bar—where Jae frequently performs—the song captures the electric spirit of New York’s queer nightlife. It’s a track that feels just as at home in a packed club as it does playing under the glow of the city skyline. With brass flourishes, a hypnotic beat, and even a witch’s spell woven into the bridge, it’s an irresistible invitation to let go and move.
Jae’s creative circle—what they affectionately call their “coven”—helped bring the vision to life, from makeup artist Evan Nicholas to designers Langley and Luis of Lone Ace Design, who crafted the spellbinding visuals. A music video is in the works, pending funding to match Jae’s full artistic vision.
For Jae XO, “Dancin’ in the Full Moon” is more than just a dance track. It’s a celebration of survival. “This song will make people want to dance,” they say, “but it’s never just dancing. It’s mourning, it’s fighting, and it’s celebrating all at once.”
“Dancin’ in the Full Moon” is now streaming on all major platforms. Follow @jaexo.music for upcoming NYC performances.
