Pito Carrera

Pito Carrera rules the nights with his explosive weeknight parties that he runs and helps run along with fellow promoter Yusef Xtravaganza. Together they start Mondays off at the Monster with an electrifying Latin night of fun and festivities. Their party continues on Tuesdays and culminates at G Lounge on Fridays. I had an enlightening conversation with Pito as he explained what one can expect at his parties.
Pito, what kind of parties do you promote?
On Monday I do the Monster, on Tuesdays Boa Hoboken and I also do Fridays at G Lounge. Before that, pretty much everywhere.

Let’s start with The Monster. What type of party is that?
At The Monster it’s a Latin night. It’s very Latin. We have dancers, we do a drag show, a variety show. We are trying to keep things in line with what was there before. So it is still the Latin night that everybody loved before, but we are adding the pop, a little bit of hip hop and some house to the mix just to bring in the younger crowd. Tuesday is kind of an open night. I have Harmonica Sunbeam hosting there with me weekly. It’s all different types of music. Friday at G Lounge is an Urban night, so we do mainly hip hop, a little bit of house and urban pop, and things of that nature.

How long have you been a promoter?
Fourteen years now.

So your parties are mixed, but primarily Latin?
Yeah, mostly Latin, black, LGBT, over 21, mixed.

Who are your DJs?
DJ Nesco on Monday and on Tuesday DJ Nesco is my resident DJ. Friday is a mix. They just rotate.

Anything else you’d like to say?
Just a mention of the people I work with. Yusef Xtravaganza, I partner up with him on Mondays. I don’t do it by myself. Friday is really his party. I’m kind of the host/consultant. I’ll MC from time to time, but it’s mainly his party. I’m there. Tuesdays it’s my party. I just want to be clear on that!
