N0vel

Canadian-born professional singer, songwriter and dancer N0vel’s new sexified video and song “Spark” is quickly becoming an epic force to be reckoned with, especially amongst her beloved fans and followers. Ferociously gaining popularity, I was able to speak with N0vel, and found her sweet, candid and entertaining, and very excited to be part of the White Party coming up in Palm Springs.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.  I know you are from Canada.
I am from a small town in Canada with like 515 people.  It was a really small, kind of a village. I’ve been dancing since age three, and then I got into music. Now I’m out here living in California and working it.

Your new song – are you planning a tour to support it?
Yes, I plan on it. I’ve already done two big shows here in LA, and we’re going to head out to Palm Springs. We have the White Party, and I know Fly Life has some exciting things up their sleeve. I definitely will be doing “Spark,” and I’d love to do as much as possible.

Will you be heading to New York in the near future?
Oh, for sure. I love New York.  I’ve been there a few times. I was out there one time and did a performance. That was last year.

Your video is very sexy.
Yeah, there was actually a bunch of writers on it. There was kind of like a group of us for this one single “Spark,” but the rest of my EP was all written by me. It’s all from my experiences, my feelings, everything.

What was your motivation to go from dancing to music?
I just wanted to express my feelings. I always kind of bottled myself up, and I didn’t know how to talk about my feelings and stuff like that. So I started writing, and then I just started singing my lyrics, and people started to really respond to it, so I just continued doing it. I sing at home all the time. I sang the national anthem for all of the hockey teams. I would sing in school. It just like kind of expanded.

Do you have a favorite artist that you grew up loving?
I really like Cher. I listened to Cher when I was little, and I just love her “Believe.” My mom used to say I would run around and pretend I was Cher. I would dress up and start singing “Strong Enough.” I love Cher, and I really like Gaga too; she’s a true artist. I actually love Eminem. I really love his lyrics. I feel like his lyrics are right from the heart with his pain. Sometimes I would really relate to him, because I’ve have some of his experiences as well.

What motivates you?
Well, the first thing I usually do is get up and look at my Twitter, my Instagram. I read about the fans sharing my stuff and see how my lyrics have inspired them. They feel what I wrote. My fans really, really motivate me.

I understand you are very devoted to your fans.
I love my N0vel-ties.

How did you get your name?
I actually got my name N0vel from – well, my last name is Novelin, so when I was in the studio with Poet Life, he worked with the Black Eyed Peas. I had stuff with my writing in it. He was like, “Hey you’re like this small town girl with all these lyrics. You’re quite like the little N0vel.” So in the studio everyone just started to call me N0vel, and it just stuck. I said, “Well, yeah, I guess I’m just quite the story, so…”

If I were to look inside your heart right now, what would I find?
Happiness and a little bit of intimidation and pain.

What’s your best quality?
Probably personality, and I love to give. I’m more of a giver than a receiver. I like to make other people more happy than myself, because I like seeing people happy.

You’re a new addition to a crayon box. What is your color?
I would have to say like a dark purple or a bright orange. Depends on my mood.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Of course, I totally believe that.

If you could pick two celebrities to be your parents, who would they be?
Angelina Jolie, because she’s just a badass girl and beautiful, and her heart is very strong. She gives a lot, and she loves kids. I actually love kids. For a dad, Ryan Gosling’s pretty hot.

Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I would like to have a few albums out. I would love to have already done a world tour. I would definitely like to have won Grammy’s and songs all on the radio. I really like to do a bunch of charities as well. I love charity work.

What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you live?
In high school I was singing the national anthem, and I messed up the lyrics, one of the words, because a bunch of kids started screaming. It was a like a pep rally, and they were getting excited, and I missed one of the lyrics.

Is there anything else that you’d like to mention?
The White Party. That’s like really exciting. It’s my very first time at the White Party. I’ve already started preparing for that: I got all my dancers, hot and sexy, their abs ripped, nice butts, so that was really fun. I’m really, really excited.
